Field Notes #3

  Picture that I will take each time:


Date: October 12, 2025

Time: 2:15 p.m.

Climate/Conditions: It was sunny outside and cooler then it has been my last two visits.

Temperature: The temperature was 63º with a feels like of 64º.

Length of Day: The total length of day light right now is 11hrs and 11mins. The sunrises at 7:54 and sets at 7:06.

Organisms: There were lots of bees and water bugs.

Changes: The weather is getting cooler lately and the amount of daylight is getting way shorter.

Observations: Last time I noticed that the water had changed from being really foggy to being more clear. This time the water wasn't as clear as my second visit but it wasn't as foggy as my first visit either.

When I looked up my question from last visit on if the leaves could have something to do with the water being cleared I found that they could impact the clarity of the water. When I read the article that explained how this worked it said that the leaves on top of the creek could slow it down which would turn up less sediment. Having less sediment floating around and just settled on the bottom could explain why the water had gone from being really foggy to being more clear with the leaves on top of it.

    Take a look at something called tannins related to your stream color and see if that is influencing at all. Start watching for patterns in color change and leaf fall.

 Picture that I will take each time: Date: September 8, 2025 Time: 6:15 p.m. Climate/Conditions: The sun was setting and it wasn't to windy but there was a slight breeze. Temperature: The temperature was 67º with a feels like of 70º. Length of Day: The total length of day light right now is 12hrs and 49mins. The sunrises at 7:16 and sets at 8:05. Organisms: Today there were lots of water bugs on top of the creek. I also heard tons of bugs buzzing while I was in my field study location. Changes: I didn't have any changes I could notice because this is the first field study. Observations: While I was down by the creek I noticed some deer tracks that were walking along side it. I also noticed that in the creek there was way less water than normal and some spots where you could cross on dry land.

 Picture that I will take each time: Date: September 28, 2025 Time: 2:50 p.m. Climate/Conditions: No wind, the sun was completely out. Temperature: The temperature was 77º with a feels like of 82º. Length of Day: The total length of day light right now is 11hrs and 51mins. The sunrises at 7:38 a.m. and sets at 7:30 p.m. Organisms: I saw two squirrels today; one of them was red and the other one was grey. I also saw tons of bees. Changes: Some of the leaves have started to change colors. The water also changed colors. Last field study it was a brownish grey color and this time it was more of a rusty brown color and a lot more clear. Field Study #2 Field Study #1 Wonderings: I wonder why the water was a different color this time and if it has something to do with the leaves starting to fall into the creek.
